A practical pallet size guide

Dimensions are the quickest way to narrow a pallet enquiry, but a footprint never tells the whole story. Construction, entry, condition, handling and the intended load all affect whether a used pallet is appropriate.

01

Two familiar footprints

UK standard size usually refers to 1200 × 1000 mm. Euro size refers to 1200 × 800 mm. Measure length and width consistently and check the overall height where equipment or packaging has limited clearance.

Neither name defines every board, block, bearer or underside detail. A Euro-size pallet is not automatically EPAL licensed or exchangeable, and a UK standard footprint does not carry one universal grade or load capacity.

  • UK standard: 1200 × 1000 mm
  • Euro size: 1200 × 800 mm
  • Other used wooden sizes: enquire with measurements
  • Always confirm construction and condition

Questions before buying

What equipment will move it? Will it sit in racking or an automated system? What is the load and how is it distributed? Does a customer specify construction, marks or condition? Is international movement involved?

Send photographs of a known suitable pallet, including top, underside and side views. Add quantity, postcode, access and timing. Those details support a meaningful quotation and reduce the risk of assuming that outer size makes two pallets interchangeable.
