Documents follow the cargo and destination
ISPM 15 uses an authorised mark rather than requiring a phytosanitary certificate for the wood packaging itself. This does not remove documentation requirements for the goods. Ask the importer and forwarder which cargo documents, declarations, marking references or customer evidence are required.
For France, Defra’s wood-packaging page updated 16 September 2026 describes additional notifications for packaging accompanying goods subject to SPS controls. It distinguishes these from non-SPS cargo, for which a CHED-PP is not currently required solely for accompanying wood packaging. Check your cargo category and current process with the responsible importer or agent; do not generalise one route’s documents to every export.
Write an acceptance checklist
Record footprint, construction, quantity, load and equipment, destination and transit route, treatment code or marking requirement, permitted repair condition, required evidence and delivery date. Confirm who checks the pallets before packing and who handles destination declarations.
If treatment through our registered partner is needed, agree the schedule before setting the packing deadline. Inspect delivered pallets against the brief and keep shipment records that your customer or agent requests. A correctly marked pallet does not guarantee the cargo is accepted at every destination.
Define the movement first
Name the destination country or territory and identify any transit points or customer packaging rules that affect the movement. Ask your freight forwarder, customer or destination agent for the exact requirement where possible. ‘For export’ is not a complete specification because different movements can trigger different controls.
Check whether ISPM 15 applies to the wood packaging involved and whether exemptions, bilateral arrangements or additional destination rules are relevant. Use current official guidance rather than copying instructions from an old shipment.
Define the pallet separately
State the footprint, construction, entry arrangement, quantity, intended goods, load distribution and handling equipment. UK standard and Euro-size describe dimensions, not compliance. A Euro footprint does not prove EPAL status, and neither footprint proves treatment, marking or capacity.
Used condition adds questions about damage, contamination, component replacement, repairs and consistency across the quantity. If automation, racking or a customer's intake specification is involved, those operational checks remain necessary alongside export requirements.
Choose the appropriate supply route
Premier Pallet can supply used pallets already heat-treated and correctly marked for ISPM 15, subject to specification and availability. Treatment can also be arranged through a registered partner. Specify the required treatment and marking before ordering so the relevant route can be quoted.
Record whether the customer asks for mark photographs, paperwork, restrictions on repair or another form of evidence. Reused pallets may retain acceptable components, while repaired or remanufactured pallets can be subject to specific marking requirements; check current official guidance and the shipment brief.
Plan timing without assumptions
Give the requested date, delivery postcode, access, unloading plan and shipment deadline. Work backwards to leave time for specification review and destination checks. Scheduling is finalized during the quotation process.
Before loading, verify that supplied pallets match the agreed specification and that current shipment advice has not changed. If marks, condition or documents do not align with the requirement, pause and resolve the discrepancy rather than relying on the order description alone.

Useful answers
Common questions
Can I order export pallets by size alone?
No. Footprint is only one part of the brief; destination, treatment, marking, repair, condition and handling requirements also matter.
Are used Euro-size pallets automatically suitable for export?
ISPM 15 status and exchange eligibility are determined by specific markings and certifications, not by size alone.
What should I send with an enquiry?
Send destination, quantity, specification, goods and handling details, required treatment or marks, repair restrictions, delivery information and requested date.
